In the middle of a surgical operation. Or when a patient needs oxygen. Or an urgent X-ray. When a human life is at stake, there can be no failures in the electricity supply.

That is why, in 2013, the Elecnor Foundation, together with the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Anne and the Congregation of the Hospital Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, launched the Solar Back-Up Systems project.

Over time, the obsolescence of their electrical installations had raised the risk of a power outage to unacceptable levels, greatly increasing the cost of services and, most importantly, putting patients' health at risk.

Since then, the Elecnor Foundation has maintained a close relationship with both religious congregations through the corporate volunteering of the Elecnor Group. Eventually, the need to implement new photovoltaic systems was identified to improve healthcare in critical units. Thus, the project initiated in 2013 has been expanded with the design of five new solar photovoltaic systems in different medical centers.

In November 2021, the Solar for Health project was inaugurated with the presence of Fernando Azaola, president of the Elecnor Foundation, and Rocío Cervera as patron. Their visit also served to verify that the installations from the 2013 project continue to operate in perfect condition. In addition to receiving the gratitude of both religious congregations, the Elecnor Foundation confirmed that the project has helped care for and improve the health of thousands of people.
