The Elecnor Foundation and the  Presidential Agency for International Cooperation of Colombia  (APC-Colombia) have signed an agreement to improve access to water and energy for inhabitants of rural areas and the communities farthest from Colombia's urban centres, where there is no access to these basic commodities.

Signed on 12 April by Eduard Pinyol, deputy general manager of International Development at Elecnor, representing Elecnor, and by Alejandro Gamboa, Director General of the Presidential Agency for International Cooperation of Colombia (APC-Colombia), this agreement lays the foundations for future cooperation between the two institutions. It is the first step towards the development of engineering and renewables projects that will reduce the the energy divide and ensure equality of access to drinking water and electricity in the country.

This strategic alliance has been forged shortly after the Colombian Minister of the Environment and Sustainable Development, Gabriel Vallejo, directly entrusted APC-Colombia with the coordination mechanism for the promotion of key issues for the country's development.

The Elecnor Foundation will partner APC-Colombia as it embarks on this pathway thanks to the technical support and experience Elecnor offers in, among other areas, the infrastructure, renewables and new technologies sectors.

Colombia joins the list of regions in Latin America where the Elecnor Foundation is now active, carrying out social infrastructure projects via Elecnor. Such initiatives include the Synergy project in Chile, which has brought electricity and water to 40 families in the community of El Totoral in the country's Atacama Desert, the Lights for Learning project in Uruguay, which has brought electricity to all the country's rural schools, and the Ilumina initiative in Honduras, which has helped to improve economic development and improved the living conditions of the more than 13,000 inhabitants of Cantarranas in the Department of Francisco Morazán.
