We have finished the project Rebuilding La Nopalera
In La Nopalera, a small village in the state of Morelos, Mexico, the inhabitants are still facing the arduous task of rebuilding what the earthquake of 19 September 2017 stole from them: the church, the school and, above all, tens of houses that were destroyed.
With a population of around 1,000 inhabitants, La Nopalera is an isolated place, both due to its geographical location and the lack of basic public services.
In order to improve the village’s socioeconomic conditions, the Elecnor Foundation set up a project to install solar photovoltaic street lights there, with the aim of lighting the whole village with intelligent lights and renewable energy.
A solar street light system is an improvement on the traditional lighting system, due to its superiority in terms of energy efficiency, operation, maintenance and lumen depreciation.

With this project, the Elecnor Foundation has helped to mitigate the effects of the climate crisis and accelerate the rate of change towards a decarbonised energy model. Solar energy enables current development without endangering future generations.
Furthermore, the Elecnor Foundation has fostered corporate volunteer activities in La Nopalera.
In 2020, given the serious situation caused by the COVID-19 health crisis, the volunteers from the Elecnor Foundation provided the village of La Nopalera with coronavirus protection kits to reduce the risk of infection and help to prevent the spread of the virus.
This is the true spirit of responsible citizenship. This is why the Elecnor Foundation promotes its volunteer programme by inviting Elecnor professionals to participate in its projects, with the objective of showing the human side of engineering.
Thanks to everybody for your work and unconditional support!
