The Elecnor Foundation backs UPV students with the best ideas and projects in energy efficiency

12/07/2013

Good ideas have their reward. The Elecnor Foundation has handed out a prize and scholarships for end-of-degree projects created by students at the ETSII / Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV). Five scholarships acknowledging the most outstanding energy efficiency-related work.

This year marks the initiative's third edition, which sprung up after several years of collaboration between the UPV and Elecnor, now channelled through the Elecnor Foundation. The Technical School of Industrial Engineers (ETSII) proposes a series of subjects for end-of-degree projects, and afterwards the Foundation chooses the five that best suit the Group's activity.

Five students have been given scholarships to develop their projects. One of them also received the overall prize. That student was David Huerta, who designed a photometer that enforces the regulations on energy efficiency for outdoor public lighting systems. The prize is worth €1,500. This year's other distinguished students were:

  • Jorge Tarín Corachán: DALI-based lighting control system with a programmable logic controller integrated to a spreadsheet.
  • Estefanía Hervas Blasco: Technical and economic assessment of self-consumption in photovoltaic systems. Project developed using a system installed on building 5n at the UPV.
  • Miguel Cloquell Cloquell: A comparative study between central and unitary air conditioning systems in terms of energy consumption and installation costs.
  • José Antonio Nieto Mora: Computer-aided calculation of short circuits in medium-voltage connections.

The award ceremony was attended by the Director of the ETSII / UPV, Jorge García-Serra García, Fidel Chaparro, on the part of Elecnor's Eastern Office, and Jorge Ballester, there representing the Elecnor Foundation.

The following video provides a brief overview of the conference and opinions from several distinguished students.
