Elecnor, energy as a tool for social improvement

05/11/2020

Our Foundation is currently implementing a project in Cameroon whose objective is to provide a stable electricity supply to a technical institute to underpin its socio-educational activity.

Since our beginnings, we have always been guided by criteria that would be considered intrinsic to any corporate responsibility policy today: focusing on customers, creating a motivating workplace, engaging with the communities in which we operate.

The objective of our Foundation is to demonstrate the commitment of engineering to humans and society. The Foundation's work is tied closely in with Elecnor's own activity to be more effective. Our goals are to protect the environment, achieve efficient energy consumption and establish a general culture in the organisation of responsibility regarding the impact of our activities on the environment.

An example of this is Énergie Solaire Pour L'Education (Solar Energy for Education): a project running in Cameroon and combining two separate concepts. Because energy is hugely important in education and plays a vital role in eradicating poverty, improving learning, reducing mortality rates and enabling access to quality health care, among many other matters.

This 360º initiative manages to combine the development of social infrastructure with job training and placement. The objective of this project is to consolidate the socio-educational activities of the Don Bosco Technical Institute in Ebolowa by providing reliable high-quality electricity through the installation of a solar PV system that provides power for the activities carried out at the Technical Institute, boarding school and youth club, together with the local radio and free water supply service.

Through this renewable installation, the Elecnor Foundation has helped improve the education and quality of life of at least 750 students.
